The waters surrounding the Mesoamerican Reef exceeded the all time monthly record temperature for January in 2013! (Check out figure 1 in Jeff Master's recent post) Today's water temperature is near 81 F. This will make visiting the reef more pleasant in a few weeks but may be big trouble for the struggling corals...
The Marine Biology Club (MBC) at North Collins Central School is advised by Ms Julie Palmer. The Club visits a unique ecosystem each year and has chosen the coral reef for 2013. The Blog background is Anthony's Key Resort in Roatan and will be our home for the week of March 23-30.

At the February 28, MBC meeting we will be looking at pictures of the handful of venomous marine creatures we may see in Roatan. The group is quite diverse but all have relatively mild venom that gives a painful warning to leave them alone! Click on the link above to read about the origin of venom.
